Odesa
Historically over 30 million tonnes of grain a year
Location and Figures
Overview
The great grain port of Ukraine, founded in 1794 as the Russian Empire window to the south. Odesa and nearby Pivdennyi shipped grain to the world for two centuries. A Russian blockade in 2022 shut the sea lanes until a UN brokered corridor reopened exports that autumn.
