Overview
Opened to foreign trade in 1859 as one of the first treaty ports after the end of Japanese seclusion, Yokohama grew from a fishing village into the main gateway for silk exports and Western goods. Today it anchors the Keihin port cluster on Tokyo Bay alongside Tokyo and Kawasaki, with deep container berths at Honmoku and Minami-Honmoku.
